Cheap & Easy Habits
to improve your health
1) Get a Massage
The health benefits far out weigh the cost. Massage has the best return on investment you could do for your health. From recycling red and white blood cells to help boost the immune system, to clearing out byproducts that build up in the muscle tissue, allowing your muscles, nerves and fascia work at their absolute peak performance. Let’s not leave out the mental benefits of relaxation and forgetting about the stressors of life. Regular massage treatments, at least once a month, will help counteract the damage created by repetitive stress, created from a desk job or labor intensive work. With the immense benefits extra blood flow has on soft tissue your muscles, tendons and ligaments will all benefit bringing your work and workouts to new levels.
2) Drink Water
Staying properly hydrated is one of the easiest habits you can do to improve your overall health. Add fruit to your water to enhance its ability to absorb into the bodies tissues. Carbonated water adjusts the PH to an acidic level, so no it does not count as drinking water.
3) Move Your Body
20 minutes a day minimum. In today’s computer world the best thing you can do for your health is move. Walk, run, ruck, row, bike, pick your favorite and get going. I often get asked what is the best activity to do. My answer, “ the one you are going to do.” I can say running burns the most calories but if you hate running you aren’t going to be motivated to do it, so find something you love to do so it doesn’t feel like a grueling obligation.
4) Eat Real Food
Stick to the perimeter of the supermarket and if a food has a health claim on the package, walk right by. Our bodies have not evolved as much as science would like you to believe, it does not have the ability to recognize substances created in a lab. So, stick with real food. You can identify it as real food because it will NOT have a label of ingredients.
5) Stop Overthinking
If 1-3 have left you with a ton of questions, you are overthinking. Move and Stay Nourished. You don’t have to be perfect everyday, and don’t let one off day ruin the week. each day is a chance for a new beginning.
6) Remember to Breathe
When life gets overwhelming take a few full, deep breaths. Fill those lungs and exhale slowly. Smokers always claim that the activity relaxes them, but what they are actually doing is removing themselves from the current situation to take deep breaths. The cigarette, vape pen, whatever, is simply a crutch. Just Breathe.
7) Dry Brush
Using a natural bristled brush, stroke your arms and legs upward toward your heart. Across the chest and up the torso. 2 to 3 strokes as you move along the body. You can purchase one of these brushes virtually anywhere and they sell for about 5-10 dollars. It will improve skin tone, aid in exfoliation, aid in lymph flow resulting in improved immune system and stimulate peripheral nerves to bring blood to surface tissue and aid in removal of toxins.
8) Epsom Salts
Soak in a bath. Don’t over think the ratio of water to salt, just fill the tub, dump salt in and soak. Magnesium is denatured by stomach bile but easily absorbed through the skin. MgSo4 will help relieve muscle soreness and other soft tissue issues while aiding in the detoxification of the entire body. Not a bath taker? Ask me about my line of magnesium based products.
